The SPFD is a combination fire department, made up of career and volunteer firefighters. All are certified through The Texas Commission on Fire  Protection and the State Fireman and Fire Marshalls Association. Many members are certified EMT’s and Paramedics, both on State and National levels. The department operates out of a single station, we have fifteen volunteer firemen, four part time,  and one full time firemen. The station houses one engine, a rescue truck, and a brush truck. Sansom Park has mutual aid agreements with the surrounding cities of Lake Worth, Westworth Village, and River Oaks.
Our department responds to all types of emergency situations. Fire suppression, emergency medical services, vehicle extraction, and wild land fires. We offer fire inspections and fire prevention presentations as well. Please feel free to contact the Fire Chief if you are interested in an inspection or presentation.
Request for Fire or EMS reports should be made with the Department of Public Safety records clerk, Lori Simmons. You may contact her at the Sansom Park Police Department. You will be asked to complete a “Open records request” form. Please allow up to ten business days after your request has been submitted. The fee for most reports are $6.00.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with our City may come by and pick up an application at City Hall or if after 5pm you obtain an application from the Police Department.
Sansom Park Fire Department tips;
  • There is no burning of trash, brush, leaves etc. inside the city limits.
  • Fireworks are prohibited by City Ordinance and can carry a heavy fine.
  • The SPFD will install smoke detectors at no charge to you, however we do not provide the smoke detectors.
  • A home fire extinguisher is a great idea to keep in your Kitchen, garage, and any other potential danger areas.
  • Please change the batteries in your smoke detectors during the “Daylight savings” time changes.

CODE ENFORCEMENT

MISSION

Promote a clean and safe environment through education, inspection and enforcement related to zoning, junk vehicles, weeds & substandard structures.
To be actively involved in the neighborhoods and commercial districts of our city to address issues regarding health, safety, and property maintenance.

Areas of Work

  • Zoning
Includes neighborhood issues such as parking unpaved, junk stored outside and RV storage, as well as commercial property uses such as sign allotment, property use requirements, and landscaping. Violations are usually given between 1 and 10 days to be abated.
  • Junked Vehicles
Applies to vehicles that are on private property that have expired tags or inspection and have not moved in 30 days. Process begins with notice of violation, and then a public hearing is held for a order of abatement to be issued so the vehicle may be towed.
  • Weeds and Rubbish
Covers uncultivated vegetation on private property and adjacent public property that has grown to a height over 8 inches and junk or debris that has not been properly disposed of. Property owners are notified by regular mail and by a posting placed on the property. Properties that remain in violation at re-inspection are put on mowers lists that are issued to private contractors for abatement.
  • Substandard Structures
The Property Maintenance Code covers structures and properties that have become open and accessible, vacant properties that have deteriorated to the point of unsafe habitation, and incomplete demolitions. This code is also applied to occupied housing in an effort to stop deterioration of a structure before it becomes dangerous. Cases are presented to the Substandard Structure Commission who may issue an order for the property to be repaired, removed, or demolished. Cases vary on a severity basis, which effects compliance times.

For information regarding Code Enforcement please call 817-626-1921
