Objective of Code Enforcement

Code Enforcement is responsible for addressing nuisance and property standard violations to ensure a safe and healthful environment for the community. These violations include high weeds and grass, trash and debris and illegal dumping. The main goal of this enforcement is to resolve violations to reduce neighborhood deterioration and ensure property values.

Code Enforcement officers conduct surveys and investigate complaints concerning dangerous buildings, substandard structures, excessively high grass and weeds, accumulation of trash and debris, illegal dumping and other general nuisance-related violations. Code Compliance Officers will:

  • Take photographs and gather all pertinent facts associated with possible code violations
  • Prepare required documentation for legal actions
  • Prepare detailed reports and correspondence related to code compliance inspections, violations, and other activities


Grass and weeds cannot be grown to a height that exceeds 12 inches.  Any person that violates this ordinance, upon conviction, shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $2,000.00.  Each day that the violation is permitted to continue shall constitute a separate offense.  Chapter 6, Health & Sanitation, Section 6.04.004 Tall weeds and grass generally (a) of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Sansom Park.

Junk and Debris:   It is unlawful to permit any rubbish, brush, any and all other objectionable, unsightly or unsanitary matter of whatever nature to accumulate or be present upon any lot, tract or parcel of land.  Any person that violates this Ordinance, upon conviction, shall be subject to a fine not to exceed $2,000.00.  Each day that the violation is permitted to continue shall constitute a separate offense.  Chapter 6, Health & Sanitation, Section 6.04.006 Rubbish, brush and other unsanitary or objectionable matter of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Sansom Park.

Junk vehicle: A junk vehicle means a motor vehicle that is inoperative and does not have a current and valid registration or safety inspection sticker, or, that is wrecked, dismantled or partially dismantled, or, that has remained inoperative for more than forty-five (45) days.  Any person who violates this ordinance, upon conviction, is subject to a fine not to exceed $200.00.  Each day that the violation is permitted to continue shall constitute a separate offense.  Chapter 8, Offenses and Nuisances, Article 8.07 Junked Vehicles, Section 8.07.001 Definitions of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Sansom Park.

Parking in front Yard:  No automobile, truck or trailer shall be parked on any area of a residential lot except upon a properly permitted driveway or parking area.  This prohibition shall also extend to the side yards of residences on corner lots which face two (2) or more public streets.  Chapter 12, Traffic & Vehicles, Article 12.04 Parking, Section 12.04.002 Parking on residential lots, (a) of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Sansom Park.

Posting of Address: The owner, occupant or person in control of every dwelling or place of business within the city shall affix the street address to said dwelling or place of business, or if a rural type mail delivery  receptacle is used, to both sides thereof.  Numbers shall be affixed and large enough as to be visible from the street directly in front of the dwelling or place of business.  Chapter 3, Building Regulations, Article 3.13 Streets and Sidewalks, Section 3.13.034 Placement, Visibility of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Sansom Park.
